The homes at Huia have been carefully crafted, inside and out, by award-winning architects Monk Mackenzie. Engaging a single firm to oversee the entire design process has ensured a comprehensive and cohesive outcome that delivers a complete package for the design-savvy homebuyer. The crisp, classically modern interiors are not only wonderfully spacious, they also complement the clean lines of the exteriors, say the architects.
Natural light – and lots of it – is one of the key attributes of all the interiors at Huia. Full-height, floor-to-ceiling doors and windows ensure sunlight floods the living spaces and the bedrooms upstairs, no matter what time of the day. On the ground floor, the high-stud living spaces all open up to generous covered patios, which help bring the outside in, even on those warm, sultry days. And it’s that sense of living within touching distance of nature – thanks to the abundance of natural light –which sets Huia apart from its rivals.
The modernist interiors are crisp in terms of their detailing. A white-on-white appearance prevails, with only the accents changing, depending on which palette is selected. This neutral palette allows the buyer to put their stamp on the interiors through their furniture selections.
There are two refined palettes of interior finishes to select from.
Palette A features black kitchen cabinetry and black benchtop to the rear of the kitchen, contrasted against white cabinetry and benchtop to the kitchen island*, which features brushed gunmetal sink and tapware. Flooring is a light coloured brushed oak beige floor downstairs, and off-white carpet to the upper floor.
Palette B features white cabinetry and white stone benchtops to the full kitchen, highlighted by feature brushed copper sink and taps. The crispness of the kitchen is offset by the grey brushed oak timber flooring, leading into a rich off-grey carpet as you head upstairs.
In the bathrooms all units offer tiles that have been selected to work with both palettes and create a light and spacious feeling, set against bathroom fittings matching consistent with the materials of each palette and that of the kitchen tapware (ie. gunmetal bathroom fittings for palette A, copper for palette B).
The kitchens at Huia have been thoughtfully designed to fit seamlessly into the overall aesthetics of the open-plan living space and be both highly functional and practical. The monochromatic combination of black and white cabinetry along the back wall and on the island gives contrast and weight to the space – and at the same time allows a homeowner to personalise the space with accents, such as the barstools and pendant lighting.
For the benchtops, a durable engineered stone has been specified, with a waterfall end on the kitchen designs that incorporate an island. A colour-matched glass splashback and handle-less cabinetry complete the minimalist look of these kitchens.
All kitchens come with a suite of matching Fisher & Paykel appliances, including an induction cooktop, built-in extractor, integrated oven and dishwasher. A fully integrated fridge-freezer is also an option for those homeowners looking for a completely seamless look.
The bathrooms at Huia are a statement in contemporary design. Tiles adorn two walls and the floor, along with a wall-hung vanity, all adding to the feeling of serenity. Depending on your preference, there is a choice of finish for the tapware and shower fittings – brushed copper or gunmetal.
Natural light, and lots of it, are again a dominant theme in the bedrooms, thanks to the full-height windows. Every bedroom is generously sized and has a colour-coordinated built-in wardrobe. A choice of light or dark soft-pile carpet is available, with premium underlay beneath, for that touch of luxury between the toes.
* Townhouses 1-4 will have black cabinetry only.
